GRAPPLING ARTS: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
You’ll gain confidence & discipline as you learn to effortlessly hold down an opponent, escaped from positions, get back up to your feet, or submit them with joint locks and chokes. Safety is a priority in this class (as is all others) and we allow a student to progress at their own rate.
In our Grappling Arts class we teach different concepts & techniques of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a some influences from Combat Submission Wrestling as well. Our focus is primarily self defense based, not competition or tournaments. This art is completely taught on the ground, both No-Gi and with the Gi (Jiu-Jitsu Uniform).
The Grappling Arts class represents half of our Full JKD Curriculum (Kai-Shin Jeet Kune Do). Students who attend this class, but not the Stand-Up class, progress through the traditional ranking system of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
As a Bonus, those who study the Full JKD Curriculum (Kai-Shin Jeet Kune Do)
automatically earn rank in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well!

We are very lucky at KSK Martial Arts to be under the guidance of Professor Chet Schemahorn in Jiu-Jitsu. He is a Black Belt and certified Full Instructor under the Gracie family (founders and pioneers of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu).
Professor Schemahorn was the very first Non-Brazilian to earn his Black Belt as an affiliate student, and is currently the only affiliate instructor under Gracie family allowed to promote his own students to the level of Black Belt as well. He runs schools in Fort Wayne, IN. and LaGrange, IN., and travels the US teaching seminars.
Guro T. Kent Nelson has been studying with him since 2010, and has trained several of his own students up to the level of Blue Belt with Prof. Chet’s endorsement. Along with traveling to Schemahorn’s schools in Indianan several time a year, Guro Kent also brings him in to teach seminars at the KSK headquarters in Lansing, MI. 3-4 times a year.
