On Monday June 18th, 2012 the world lost one of it most unique and amazing martial arts teachers, Taika Seiyu Oyata, who passed away peacefully in his sleep.
Taika was one of the worlds leading pressure points experts and authorities in Okinawan Martial Arts. Teaching both empty-hands and weapons, Oyata became known for his expertise and efforts to spearhead the spread of Tuite’ Jitsu (seizing & controlling the hand) and Kyu-Sho Jitsu (nerve & blood vessel strikes). He also taught a very unique form of Kobudo (Okinawan Weapons) which was based on much more fluid motion compared to its typical hard-hitting counter parts.
Oyata founded both the Ryu-Te Renmei Association and the Oyata Shin Shu Ho Ryu Organization. Though Taika has passed on, his knowledge and legacy will continue to live on through his students.
“Taika Seiyu Oyata influenced me greatly in my development, both as a Student and a Teacher. He opened the door to an entirely different side of Okinawan Martial Arts for me, that I not only didn’t know existed, but have never seen from any other source with the same sense of depth or effectiveness. I am very grateful to have had the time I did with him. My very best to his family. Thank you Taika for all you did for the Martial Arts.”
